Hot rolled steel pipe, as the name suggests, is a steel pipe rolled at high temperature. Its production process can be said to be an epic of metal deformation, full of heat and deformation. The following is a simple description of the hot-rolled steel pipe production process:
Everything starts with ironmaking, where iron ore is converted into molten iron through sintering and blast furnace smelting. Then, the molten iron is refined through converters, electric furnaces, and other equipment to remove impurities and obtain pure molten steel.
Next, there is continuous casting or mold casting, where the molten steel is poured into a billet. The blank at this stage is still solid, and we need to heat it to change it into a more plastic state.
Then, there is the perforation step, which turns the solid blank into a hollow capillary tube. This step requires the use of a punch. The function of the punch is to punch a hole in the blank to form a capillary tube. The requirements for perforation are uniform capillary wall thickness, small ovality, and high geometric dimensional accuracy.
After that, there is the pipe rolling process, which turns the thick-walled capillary pipe into a thin-walled raw pipe. This step requires the use of a pipe rolling machine. The function of the pipe rolling machine is to reduce the wall extension and make the wall thickness of the raw pipe more uniform.
Then, there is the diameter-reducing step. Through the diameter-reducing machine, the large circle is changed into a small circle, thereby improving the outer diameter accuracy and roundness of the finished pipe.
After completing the above steps, the semi-finished product of hot-rolled steel pipe is obtained. Then, it needs to go through cooling, straightening, finishing, inspection, and other links to get the final hot-rolled steel pipe product.
In general, the production process of hot-rolled steel pipes includes ironmaking, steelmaking, continuous casting (or mold casting), heating, perforation, pipe rolling, diameter reduction, cooling, straightening, finishing, inspection, and other links. This is a complex and precise process that requires precise control of every link to obtain high-quality hot-rolled steel pipes.
