304 precision stainless steel pipe processing

304 precision stainless steel pipe is much more accurate than general stainless steel pipe in terms of surface smoothness, wall thickness, and tolerance range of inner and outer diameters. According to the most basic standards, the precision of precision stainless steel pipe can reach ±0.05mm to ±0.015mm. So how to continue to ensure its precision under process processing? Let’s take a look at 3 common 304 precision stainless steel pipe processing.

1. Polishing
304 precision stainless steel pipe often needs polishing. Although the surface of precision stainless steel pipe is also very bright and can reach the mesh number between 150-200, due to different application directions, it is generally necessary to polish inside and outside, and even some need to achieve a mirror effect. Polishing of precision stainless steel pipe can easily affect the accuracy of size. Generally, polishing will cause a dimensional error of 0.01 mm-0.03 mm. To prevent dimensional accuracy, we generally choose pipes that are thicker than required, and then polish and grind. This can not only control the dimensional accuracy but also meet the surface requirements of customers.

2. Cutting
Almost all 304 precision stainless steel tubes need to be cut. The requirements for the mouth of precision stainless steel tubes are very high, and there should be no defects such as burrs and burrs. Therefore, the mouth of the tube is usually polished after cutting to ensure the smoothness of the mouth of the tube. In addition, some customers also have very high requirements for the dimensional accuracy of the mouth of the tube and the length. In this case, precision cutting must be used, such as laser cutting, wire cutting, etc., which can not only handle the mouth of the tube well but also ensure the accuracy of the size.

3. Hole opening
Some 304 precision stainless steel tubes will have hole opening requirements. For general stainless steel tubes, we will use stamping methods and drilling methods. However, precision stainless steel tubes rarely use the above methods. First, the dimensional accuracy is not well controlled, and second, it is easy to cause damage to the tube body. The more commonly used precision tube holes will use laser hole opening, which can not only effectively control the dimensional accuracy, but also reduce the damage to the tube body, and even the shape of the hole is more than stamping and drilling. But the only drawback is that the cost will be relatively high. Some thin-walled tubes can choose to use the stamping method. But it depends on the customer’s requirements and cost budget.

The above introduces 3 common 304 precision stainless steel pipe processing technologies. In addition, the processing of precision stainless steel pipes also includes chamfering, flaring, shrinking, curling, etc., which will not be introduced one by one. Since the threshold of precision pipes is high and the processing equipment requirements are also high, the processing cost will be higher than that of ordinary stainless steel pipes.
